Is this gentleman based on anyone? I ran a google search and found nothing. Zahir 20:06, 25 Sep 2005 (PDT)
- I think he's a descendant of William Penn. Otherwise, not based on any real person. Free reign etcetera! [PB]
- Well, here's a possibility anyway. Zahir 08:37, 26 Sep 2005 (PDT)
Operation Cascade (Proposal, Working Title)
I want to expound a little on the relations between NAL and Oregon here. According to the proposal for the history of Oregon, there was a tense span of time between when Oregon declared independence in 1942 and received recognition from the NAL in 1958. While the NAL was fighting hard in Europe for 8 years, Oregon sent few if any men to help in the war effort, preferring to remain neutral and peaceful. After the Second Great War concluded in 1949, and all the NAL soldiers were able to return home, officials in Philadelphia became painfully aware of Oregon's blatant treason and outright secession from the Covenant. Indeed, support for the war was certainly not as great as US support was for WWII *here*, and by the end the nation was evenly divided between pro-war and anti-war; various groups throughout the sovereign provinces and territories of the NAL had also refused to honor the drafts after they were renewed in 1945. However, Oregon would have been the focus of the "hawks'" anger and the "doves'" pride. Therefore, some officials in Philadelphia, especially the hawks, began to fear another Crisis. That is where "Operation Cascade" comes in.
A few years ago, an anonymous whistleblower leaked documents allegedly containing plans of this secret operation. In summary, the plans suggested an immediate prosecution of all citizens and government leaders who disobeyed the drafts and a declaration of martial law in Oregon. The entire self-declared chief council of Oregon was to be detained, and the Philadelphia chief minister of Oregon to be declared its moderator. The plans were allegedly drawn up by a secret committee of aides close to GM Penn and was disclosed to him and other Conservative Democrats in confidential briefings. According to accompanying letters allegedly leaked by the same whistleblower, GM Penn and a few of his colleagues in the Parliament were supportive of the Operation and ready to move forward. However, with Penn's untimely passing and merger of the Conservative Democrat and Progressive Conservative Parties, the plans were apparently scrapped, and all but a few of the documents were burned.
The League Government wholly denied these allegations in an official statement shortly after the leak. (But, if the allegations were proven to be true, they might issue an official apology in the future.)
What do you guys think? I know this is a stretch, but I feel the period between 1942 and 1958 would be quite eventful for the relations between the two nations. Along with this, I see a few skirmishes breaking out at the border and potentially a major crisis in the 50's. I think exploring how close the NAL was to a conflict during this period would be interesting. --Gwaell 17:45, 17 February 2021 (PST)
