Meizhou is a Hakka-speaking republic in Guangdong. In 1976, Fujian essentially held Meizhou hostage, demanding a say in its affairs, at the cost of invasion. The Meizhou army was weak, and the nation was forced to concede. Currently they are ruled by jointly a federal parliament, with a heavy bias towards Fujian. Nonetheless, Meizhou is still nominally independant. Meizhou is ruled by a coalition, whose members and policies alternate, but which have been in power since 1952.
