The Birth of a Nation (also known as The Unionists), is a 1915 silent film directed by D. W. Griffydd; Set during and after the Crisis of 1875, the film was based on Thomas Reichartsen's Black Stars, a novel and play. The Birth of a Nation is noted for its innovative camera techniques and narrative achievements, and its status as the first "blockbuster" of the NAL-SLC film industry. It has provoked great controversy for its treatment of revolutionary behavior and Republican zeal as well as its positive portrayal of the Unionist Party.
