The capital of New South Cambria, the city of Sednîr was named by a sailor of the first Cambrian expedition who, spotting a group of aborigines chatting around a fire on a flat piece of land (in what is now the area known as "the rock"), jokingly remarked that this must be the meeting of the black lounge. Others started to refer to that particular outcropping as "the black lounge" (sed nîr) and the name stuck, soon being applied to the settlement that developed around it.

Sednîr was bombed by China during the Great Oriental War.
