Why are they called Scots if they immgrated there from Ireland? Misterxeight 00:01, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Because Scot(t)i was a Latin term for the Irish well before some of them moved to nothern Britain. The 9C philosopher and theologian Ioannes Scotus added Eriugena 'born in Ireland' to his name to make it clear that he was an Irish rather than a Scottish Gael.
