Kingdom of Asturias

Asturias was the only place in the Iberian Peninsula where the Moors failed to conquer in 711. A Christian Kingdom, was the first step in the Reconquista, soon joined by the Marca Hispanica: a resistance by the Franks in the Pyrinees.

Leon, a former Asturian province, conquered back Asturias and later Castile, a former Leonese province, conquered back Leon.

Asturias is currently an Autonomous Community in Castilian Spain, in the Kingdom of Castile and Leon.
